I installed VCMI and ran the recommended vcmibuilder script to install the data files from the GOG.com release of Heroes of Might & Magic III: Complete. Upon launching vcmiclient, it crashed and returned an error message:

vcmiclient: error while loading shared libraries: libvcmi.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

A search of the VCMI forums turned up one entry for this error message, which suggested adding a pair of symlinks. I tried to replicate this but received the same crash and error message upon startup.
