I could do that, but my Samsung ML-1640 wasn't working with v2.2.8 and idk how to troubleshoot the issue.

Also the cups package has lots of reverse dependencies that might need to be rebuilt and tested.

I think it was a better idea to first create a task so people that have more knowledge in the topic than I at the moment can discuss the update as It should be.

My printer now works thanks to SPLIX, albeit it supports Black and White.
